AIKI FITNESS

In order to get his students physically capable to absorb his very powerful execution of techniques safely, Chiba sensei developed specific conditioning exercises. Students of his style of Aikido have continued to develop this concept. Borrowing from various disciplines including yoga, gymnastics and various body weight exercise systems and mixed with traditional Aikido warm-ups and rolls/ukemi exercises.
Aiki-fitness is a fun but challenging combination of conditioning exercises to develop cardiovascular fitness, core strength and flexibility. Focusing on muscle tone and endurance rather than muscle mass, as well as developing gymnastic core skills that are essential for good Aikido training but rewarding in their own right. Emphasis is placed on quads, gluts and abs (used a lot in our form of Aikido) and developing upper body strength. Although Aiki-fitness has developed out of the need to condition Aikido bodies, we are providing it as a stand alone class for people who want to enjoy its unique blend of exercises even if they feel that Aikido itself is not for them.
