AIKI KIDS
Aiki Kids teaches balance, co-ordination, body-awareness, discipline, co-operation and sensitivity. At the same time, kids develop self-confidence and self-defense skills. Most importantly, it's fun and challenging for any age or ability. It involves rolls, stretches, partner practice, throws and pins. Aikido improves posture, core strength, timing and team work. As well as developing an awareness of what is going on around you and a community spirit.
Matt Teale Sensei has over 30 years of experience of Aikido as well as being a doctor with a special interest in movement and neurological development. He & his wife, Alva are also trained in the INPP method which is designed to encourage the maturation of the neurological system of school aged children through simple body movement. Miltos Teale started training at the age of 7 and so understands kids Aikido from the inside out. He brings energy and enthusiasm and a wealth of experience to the class.
AIKI KIDS brings together the rich tradition of Japanese martial arts and the modern understanding of neurodevelopment to help your children become comfortable in their own bodies. Children's classes are seperated into 6-8 year old and 9-14 year old age groups. The younger age group focuses more on balance, co-ordination and learning skills needed for Aikido training in a fun, exciting and challenging way appropriate for this age group. In the older age group, formal techniques are learned in more detail as for adults but avoiding joint locks and techniques that are potentially dangerous of young bodies. For teens over 14, it is normally more appropriate for them to join in with the general, adult classes. For an article on bullying - click here
